ChemAware There are approximately 200 countries in the world each having their own national legislation and language. There are Regulations on (M)SDS, Classification & Labeling, Notification of Chemical Substances, Product Registration, Information for Poison Information Centers, Restriction of the use of very dangerous substances, Occupational Exposure Limits and much more. In 2000 Henk van Peski, Director of EH&S for Kodak Polychrome Graphics (KPG) started keeping track of pertinent global legislation on a spreadsheet which grew to include all countries of the world. A small network was established to help keep the data current thanks to the European Union, the International Labour Organization, United Nations Groups, OSPAR, ADR etc. Subscribers pay by offering their expertise. They receive free access to the data as long as they continue to contribute towards keeping the information current. Atrion immediately recognized the significance of this concept and approached KPG with the idea of changing the format from CD to a website. Thus, a truly global network of regulatory monitoring has been established. ChemAware is an overview of global chemical legislation, presented in a way that enables the Regulatory professional to either find if a certain kind of legislation exists in a certain country, and if known, where or if the legislation can be found on the Internet. ChemAware is a tool which will help Regulatory professionals around the globe locate websites that are of interest to them. ChemAware also provides the Regulatory professional with a mechanism to quickly locate information about a specific country. Subscribers are required to submit revised or new content to a common email address and the data is evaluated before it is posted to the Site on a regular basis. |
